Vegetarian Restaurants that have us excited

Welcome back diners! In our final post for 2017 we predicted the rise of vegetarian restaurants and veganism as a food trend to look out for in 2018 and a week in to the new year, it already seems that the grass is greener on the other side as a large part of the online British Muslim community has embraced Veganuary! This is certainly an indication that finally we are becoming conscious of the ethical and health problems associated with overconsumption of meat. Whilst the gourmet burger train shows no signs of slowing down, the innovation in the vegetarian dining scene serves as a source of inspiration in discovering new tastes. No longer do we need to feel that we are stuck with the boring veggie option of margherita pizzas or a few limp salad leaves. The choices and innovation now include a plant based chicken protein and even burgers that are pink to ensure you don’t feel like you have to missed out on fried chicken and burgers.  I don’t know about you but this certainly makes delving into the world of Vegetarian dining a lot more compelling!

A number of new vegetarian restaurants have arrived in London so we thought we’d share with you our pick of the top 8 new vegetarian restaurants in London that have got us excited for Veganuary! Whether you have the time to make your own vegan or vegetarian concoctions or not, Veganuary offers you the perfect excuse to discover new Veggie-centric restaurants around London. We spoke about our top ten vegetarian restaurants in London last year but we know you may be looking for some more inspiration so without further ado, let’s get stuck in.

This new vegetarian restaurant is located only minutes away from the Thames and Tate Modern and guess what? Every Tuesday this Swiss restaurant offers a fully Vegan menu. Note that there may be some dishes with alcohol in them so you may want to ask before ordering.

As innovative vegan food continues to take the capital by storm, this fiercely kind Wulf and Lamb promises ‘‘indulgent plant-based comfort food’ in Sloane Square. Headed by former head chef of popular vegetarian restaurant Vanilla Black, Franco Casolin, Wulf and Lamb masters the art of fast-casual vegan dining. Their name is certainly interesting and not one you would associate immediately with a vegetarian restaurant. Their clever play on words is also reflected with some innovative menu items that would appeal to the carnivorous amongst us.  Note: one of the desserts has alcohol in it and alcohol is served.

3. New Roots Café

Here at The Halal Dining Club we love to show food-related social enterprises dining joints with a philanthropic side some appreciation so we had to give the dainty little New Roots Café a shout out. This new vegetarian restaurant is located in Islington and not only does it offer delicious ethically sourced vegetarian and vegan  food but all profits are also donated to two homeless shelters in Tottenham and Islington. We love the “dine and donate” concept as you know, it is something we live by too.

Ceremony is the hottest new vegetarian restaurant in Tufnell Park. They profess to serve Modern British dishes that just happen to be vegetarian.  Unlike the rest of our picks on this list which are all excellent healthy options, Ceremony promises indulgent vegetarian British cuisine, like buttery polenta strewn with wild mushrooms and breadcrumbed duck egg. It’s very popular amongst locals so perhaps its worth booking before you go. Note: Alcohol is served.

6.Temple of Hackney

You know if there’s one place you’ll find vegan fried chicken it’ll be the gentrified hipster hotspot that is now Hackney. Temple of Hackney is a branch off formerly popular street stall Temple of Seitan – don’t start panicking! Seitan is a meaty vegan substance made of wheat gluten and is what the chefs use here to make some seriously good vegan fried chicken! The menu may be limited but this novel eatery is definitely worth a visit!

Nearest Station: Hackney Central

7. Essence cuisine

We’re talking scrambled chickpeas, vegan chocolate caramel brownies, raw pad thai with kelp noodles and of course, a mean avocado toast. You can even skip past the alcoholic options and choose an intensely flavoursome yet refreshing smoothie or cold pressed juice to go with your meal.

8. By Chloe

Still due to open in Covent Garden is this vegan fast-food restaurant that is already a popular trendy veggie spot in New York. To eat well and to eat with purpose is the philosophy at By Chloe and its certainly one we’d like to embody in our own food choices this year! Popular dishes include The Guac Burger, Quinoa Taco Salad, Matcha Kelp Noodles and Mac n Cheese amongst many others that we can’t wait to try when this new vegetarian restaurant finally opens. It was due to open in Autumn 2017 but still hasn’t and we note that they have announced another branch will be opening in Tower Bridge.

So there you have it, plenty of inspiration for Veganuary or even if you are just trying to take a break from the gourmet burgers and steaks and opting for something a little healthy. Let members know if you dine at any of the new vegetarian restaurants listed here by leaving a review on our app!
